I found out from my ISP that MacPoet is only negotiating with PAP. Their radius server "prefers" CHAP but will accept PAP. The problem is, there are several authentication servers that I have to go through before I get to my ISP and apparently, some of them are not accepting PAP. MacPoet is highly unconfigurable and there is no help from FinePoint technologies (the b---tards that made the program). Does anyone know where or how I can change the default authentication protocal from PAP to CHAP??

Q: How do I get EnterNet to request Pap or Chap
authentication?A: There is no configuration for the client to
determine the authentication method. This is the
responsibility of the server. Whichever method
the server requests, EnterNet will accept. This is
normally issue when the server is passing off
requests to a RADIUS server, which usually
requires PAP authentication. If the BRAS server
is set for CHAP, EnterNet will accept CHAP and
not negotiate down for PAP. If this is an issue,
consult the server vendor on how to configure the
correct authentication method. But you said they were no help. Can you contact
them and ask that they change the BRAS server?

... hmmm That's what I thought..
Actually I work for this ISP in tech support. This is a problem one of our customers is having. I went and talked to our guys in NOC and they swear to me that although the server side can request PAP or CHAP (we request CHAP) the client side is able to deny that and pass though using some kind of built in default. But like I said, we will accept PAP even though we don't like it but it's not getting through to us so probably getting stopped at BRAS.
Are you sure there is nothing that can change the pre-set values of MacPoet?
It doesn't seem to reply with CHAP even when requested to.

Tell the client to get a router and throw out the software. MacPOET is the most worthless piece of crap in the history of the world.
