I just got my iMac back today from a logic board replacement. System works fine, but I tried to connect again to the internet through a cable modem and that wouldn't work. In TCP/IP it is set to "ethernet" and "using DHCP server", and the DHCP user ID is filled in. The computer is networked through a router to a PC which I am on, and that connects fine. I'm just wondering why I cannot connect with the Mac, and how I can make it work...

It is likely that your MAC (Ethernet hardware address) is different than your last logic board. You either need to set it to be the same (difficult if you don't know what it was, or HOW) -- or call your cable provider and tell them to reset your MAC on their system.

If it's going thru a router, the router's MAC address is what's being shown to the cable co, not the Mac's MAC address.
Would I be correct in assuming the exact same configuration worked before? IOW, the only thing that changed at all was the logic board?

It's very easy, in fact easier on the Mac. Open TCP/IP from "Control Panel", choose Connect: via Ethernet". Next line is Configure: choose "Using DHCP Server. TYou then erase anything that shows on all the boxes. That's all. Close and save this setting. Open Internet Explorer. TADA !!!
