Subject: Mac won't bootOS: Mac OS 8 ???CPU/Ram: AMD Athlon 1400xp/512MbModel/Manufacturer: Mesh |
Comment: Hi I know a fair bit about PCs but have a friend who has a problem with her Mac and I know nothing about Macs. Basically the machine seems to go through its booting sequence and then gets to the point where about 80% of the icons at the bottom of the screen have loaded and then the screen freezes. It always does this at the same point, just as the icon with a letter on it loads (fonts icon I think). The mouse cursor is still moveable around the screen but nothing responds to mouse clicks. The friend is not sure what version of Mac OS she is running, but she did have a disk for Mac OS 8 so we are guessing that it is running this. I am guessing that there is a problem with the hard disk but knowing nothing about how Macs work I don't know how to approach this problem. Has anybody got any ideas what the problem might be or any suggestions on how best to find out. Thanks M

Reply: (edit)try shift key at startup, to shut off exetensions, then check recently added fonts or programs and extesions in startup and disable, scan for errors as well, :)

Reply: (edit)Which icon does it freeze on? reboot as bofra stated above and once it's booted, drag that icon out of the extensions folder and reboot as normal.
for all your Refurbed mac kit in the UK
