When I turn on my G4 Mac it does not load - the screen comes on with a small folder in the middle of the screen with a flashing ? and a smiling face. I have not got the boot disks to boot it. Any suggestions to get it started?

your system folder is corrupted, and the computer can't find any place to boot from on your HD. to boot you'll need a boot CD or you can boot from an external HD, (firewire or other internal).
Thanks for your reply. Unsure what OS it is i'm afraid. (its not my Mac - and i dont know much about Macs) I've connected it to a iMac with a firewire and turned it on, but no luck. Is there a button i should press to start the boot?
