I know there are a bunch of Posts, but none of them are helpful.

I'm running Win XP, and have an imac with OS X. Installed PCMacLAN, Apple Talk is Active, I can connect to all the shared files on my Mac from my PC. Printer sharing is active, but for the life of me I can't get the EPSON 850(USB),connected to the MAC, to show up for my PC. AppleTalk is active, Windows Sharing is Active...

Am I missing something? I'm just confused because I can see all the shared folders, but the printer is missing.

I'm pulling my hair out with this one....

1. Go to System Preferences > Sharing and turn on the Windows and Printer Sharing options.

2. Make note of your computer's IP address while in there.

3. Find out what your printer's name is.
a. Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal.
b. Type (or copy + paste) "sudo cat /etc/cups/printers.conf" and press return.
c. Type your administrator password and press return.
d. Look for a line similar to this <Printer LaserWriter_16_600_PS>
e. Copy the printer name, omitting "Printer " and the surrounding angle brackets.

4. Go to the WinXP box and go to Start > Printers and Faxes.

5. Click the Add Printer link and follow through the steps as follows.
a. Choose "A network printer, or printer attached to another computer."
b. Choose "Connect to a printer on the internet..."
c. Type in a full URL constructed similar to the following one (BOLD means type the exact letters, plain text means fill in the blanks):
http://your.ip.from.step.2:631/printers/your_printer_name_from_step_3e
d. Go through other steps as required.

Thank you very much for posting these easy to
understand instructions for connecting a WinXP box
to a USB printer connected to a MacOSX box. I
followed all of the above and I believe the WinXP box
could see the printer, could connect briefly, but I
believe printing was derailed due to lack of
compatible driver. I am trying to connect to a HP
OfficeJet 5110 all-in-one USB printer. I have
attempted to download WinXP drivers from HP, but
loading the driver file would require that I connect
the printer directly to the WinXP box, which I cannot
do. I also tried several Apple drivers on the WinXP
box, but they did not work either.
Any suggestions to finish this up?
Thank you again,
Jeff
