Comment: Hi, I am using the G4 Mac machine. My Os is 8.0. Recently I experienced a very slow file transfer across the network from another Mac machine. My network is running on a 10/100 BaseT. It tooks more than 2 hours to tranfer a 800MB file. Can anything be done to beef up the transfering speed or is there anything wrong somewhere in the system or anything to do with the network. I need some advised. Regards.

Reply: (edit)update your OS!!!! how did you get a G4 with 8.0??? also, check what OS the other computer on your network is running. file transfer started getting faster with (i believe) OS 8.5 and up.

Reply: (edit)ditto on the G4 w/8.0 To go along with what lifekid said - Check the other systems on the network. Ideally, all should be running the same OS (preferably 8.5 or higher). Even a system running 9.0 can cause transfer speed problems if your running 8.0, not to mention someone in the office who may still have 7.x on their machine!

Reply: (edit)What about OS9 with OS 8.6? We've got 2 g4's with OS9 and 1 G3 with OS8.6. They talk together just fine. But although the G3 can talk to the rest of the Unix Network at a respectable speed...The OS9 G4's are C R A W L I N G... Any Clues?
