Hi all & the pickle,

I have a few questions about Mac features:

1) How can I change the name/label on my Harddrive? Right now it's called simply Hard Drive.

2) I can ping the Mac by IP address but how can I name the Mac like I have with my two Windows PC's? Will the name appear in Network Neighborhood in Windows without Dave installed on the Mac? (I have a trial version of Dave on the PC and will move it over as soon as I get a registered version of TransMac).

3) A BB user sent me a file called Disk Copy.dat. They sent it to help me open some Mac Browser files that I had burned to CD using a Windows PC at work. I downloaded several Mac Browsers to a Windows Directory in SIT and/or HQX format and copied/burned them to a CD. I transferred the files from CD to the Mac (IIci) and when I tried to open each one I received a message about being too Big for SimpleText. I presume that message appeared because they are Zip/Compressed files and I don't have Stuffit on the Mac. This is more a confirmation then question.

Thanks to all who leave comments and suggestions.

BTW, this is for the pickle. Last Friday as the Memorial day weekend was about to commence I received an email from someone named thepickle@something.com. The email had an attachment which I suspect was viral. As soon as I single clicked to highlight (not open) the email Outlook Express (MSIMN) terminated hard with a windows exception error. Are you aware of this person having an email address with the same alias? I highly doubt it cam from you.

For your HD name, click on the text only of
the icon for your HD once to highlite.
Abaout 1 sec.later click once more on the
same text. It will turn grey. Start typing
your HD name name.

Go get the latest version of stuffit.

I'll let pickle continue about your network
issue. He has the edge there. Wouldn't
want to give you bad advice, but, the
name should appear to other users in
your ring.

Network stuff:

Go to

and

Cross-platform file transfer:

You'll like the info here:

The virus: KLEZ mails itself out to everyone in Windoze users' address books, using every name *in* the address book as a return address. So what probably happened is some random Windoze user got infected and happened to be someone who had corresponded with me. So apparently our "Bacon Number" is 1 :)

Unless its originating IP (look in the full headers) is 146.113.something, it definitely did NOT come from me.
