Wow, now this is open for a good joke about the box it came
in.

Maybe get it out and pack your mac up and send it back.

Come on, give us more than that.

One assumes its a laptop? If its a iMac or any other desktop
maybe you should stick to pen and paper?

Sounds like your MacBook's battery is shot or not making
a good connection. Under the Apple icon on the upper left
of the screen, go down to About this Mac, then click on
More Info towards the bottom of the next window. From
there, on the left side of the window there should be a
menu list entitled Hardware. Under the Hardware listing
there should be a Power listing. Click on it and then to the
right of that it should show your power settings. In there
you should see heading for Battery Information. First thing
under that is "battery installed". Does it say yes?

If it says no (and the battery IS in place), or it says yes and
the battery says it is fully charged in the Battery icon
towards the right side of the menu bar across the top of
the screen and it still shuts down when you remove the
power cord, you should take your MacBook to an
Applestore for a battery replacement/and or diagnostic
tests.

Hopefully you've got this sorted out by now, but for anyone with the same problem, here's what the Apple site says:

First, make sure the battery is fully charged and you are using the right power adapter, as well as an outlet that is working.

If your battery seems fine, take it out and put it back in, ensuring a good connection with the contacts in your computer.

If that doesn't help, you may have to reset the Power Manager. You may need to look up how to do this. There are directions on the website.

If that fails, you should try a different battery. Borrow one from someone if you can. Otherwise, you'll probably have to buy a replacement.

on the same topic but different question.

Does anyone know if it is OK and safe to use
ordinary power cord for iMac instead of the
one that MAC supplies?
