I am running two computers: a Dell Windows XP
desktop, and a Mac OSX 10.2.6 iBook. The iBook
connects to my network wirelessly through a Linksys
Wireless Access Point that has a built-in firewall. My
Lexmark X75 printer is set up and shared on the
Windows XP desktop. Now that you know the setup of my hardware, I'm
wondering how I can get the iBook to print to my
Lexmark X75. I am willing to install and do anything
that I need to. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks infinitely in advance,- Rob (aka vivi0)

Viv,
That's a tricky one.
The Lexmark X75 is a Multifunction device that
connects via a single USB cable, doesn't it?(Or does it have a parallel connection too?)
Now - I'm not completely sure about this so
anyone who knows better should jump in to
correct if I be wrong, but I believe it requires that
the Apple it's running on have an OS 9.2.2 Classic
System onboard as well as OS 10.2.6 and that for
some reason - both print drivers need to be there -
including "CarbonLib 1.6" Extension in OS 9.2.2
System (Downloadable from Apple site). If you were using cables (USB and Parallel) the
configeration would be far simpler (should the
X75 have a parallel port also) - that way one
could connect the Dell and the iBook
simultaneously with each's separate cable - yet
wirelessly... me thinks me is out of my depth...You could... always just hook it up to the iBook via
a single USB cable - no?My feeble attempts at trying to "simplify" a
configeration might well be met by someone else
out there with a similar setup.Any takers?
cheers
cw

The only reason I'm not setting it up similar is
because wireless internet is pretty much wireless
ethernet, and I know a lot of people who do it with
ethernet. I downloaded the "drivers" from Lexmarks
site, and it included the Lexmark software as well.
The only way I can think of is going thru SAMBA, but
I read about that, and it confuses me.It does connect thru USB, btw. I should probably
connect it with USB to see if it works with the
drivers, and then attempt to do it wirelessly.

If you have put on print sharing on the Windows PC, I
think your mac will see it, and since OSX has lots of
drivers included, it might just find it and use it as
default. On the Mac, go to your Utilities folder inside
your Applications folder. You will find Print Center in
there and can help set up a network printer.Another way is just to plug the printer into the Mac
using the USB, if it has it. Then, under Internet and
Network on the Systems Preferences (place where
you change desktop and screensaver and stuff),
there should be something called Sharing, in there
you can choose print sharing, and other services to
talk with PCs, they also tell you how to connect to
the Mac for each service.

I already tried going into Print Center and tried all of
the ways to connect and none of them worked. I
guess I can try the sharing from it instead of the
Windows, though.
