I am trying to put a new OS on my mac. I am totally new to this and trying to figure it out. I have tried suggestions of holding the C key, etc.. and it doesn't seem to work. I have OS 10 Tiger I put on DVD from my Windows PC. Would that cause any problems or should it be able to boot from that DVD? I have also tried Linux and even downloaded a version that is supposed to work on a MAC to CD and it will not boot from the CD either. What am I doing wrong or is there something that I am not doing? I would like to get this up and running to use with the rest of my computers on my network. HELP!!!

Do I need to make a boot floppy? Otherwise I put another hard drive in to see if I can load Linux on that and the screen that is up is with a disk and it keeps blinking a "?" and nothing is happening. I held down the C key and nothing happens. Even if I have the old HD hooked up it will just boot into OS 8 even if I hold down the C key. I am a MAC dummy and not sure what I need to do or be looking for.

Need more info..what mac model? Do you have a Cdrom, CDRW or DVD-Rom , DVD-RW, or DVD-Ram? Does the CD you're tryng to boot from have a macOS system folder on it (needed to boot the classic OS)..Did you burn the Tiger DVD from a proper disk image? etc etc....

All that I know is that it is a PowerMac G3 with a 333MHz processor and I have 256MB RAM in it. It just has a CDROM in it but I can put a DVD/CDRW in it from one of my other PC's so that I can use it for the DVD. I have no idea if the CD or DVD has a macOS system folder on it. I have tried Linux that was in a pps or something like that, but it doesn't boot from the CD. Any other information would be helpful.
