Mac OS X Start up

When my computer begins to start up, it freezes on the bar with the message: Initializing Network. Prior to this occuring, Whenever I would try to start an application in Classic version 9, it would begin to start then freeze and the cd that spins when it is waiting to do something would pop up and nothing else would happen.

The network is trying to connect to something and that is why is seems to freeze. Check to see if any of your programs try to connect to the internet when you start up the computer. Something like Time and Date Control Pannel may try to connect to a time server to syncronize the time. It will continue to try to connect unless you tell it not to.
I really hope this helps Ive been there before and I know it is frustrating but just keep with it. It doesn't sound like it is a hardware so thats good.
