Having the same issue: Power Mac G4 running OS X
10.2.8; want to upgrade to tiger, but need to be at
least 10.3 to get there.

Do I really need to buy an intermediate upgrade? If
so, where would I even look--I've been hunting
around the apple site with no luck.

Sorry to be lame--I'm a PC user trying to switch, but
having serious second thoughts....

The differences between OSX 10.1, 10.2, 10.3 etc.
are the same as the differences between windows
95 and 98, or ME , or XP etc..they're all different
releases..
Just as you can't get an update to turn win 98 into
ME or NT4 into Win XP, same here.
The Mac OS updates are 'point' updates, that is
10.1 can go up to 10.15, 10.3 can go up to 10.39,
etc..
Mac OS X is inexpensive anyways , especially
compared to newer copies of windows with
similar functionality (like, say, Win2000 variants,
or Win XP Pro..), particularly used copies of 10.3
and earlier are getting quite cheap..(although it's
a relative dinosaur for OSX, i got my copy of 10.1
for $10 Can.) , so it's worth buying a copy of at
least 10.2, or preferably 10.3 used. On Ebay, say..there's lots of copies there...

If you buy the Tiger disc you can do a clean install -
although I am assuming that you are upgrading direct from
the site at a cheaper cost?
