Mac not saving Date/Time

A PowerMac G3 I'm working on isn't saving the date/time past 1-3 reboots. The machine is probably 3.5-4 yrs old.
Any idea why this is happening? Does a new lithium battery need to go on the system board?

Yep, replace the battery.

It could be the battery.

But it is more likely the PRAM
