Hi there
I have a Quadra 650 / 32MB / System 8.1, and I want to link it to my Linux machine for basic networking / modem sharing / etc. I have a bit of a problem. It's the round peg in the square hole problem really; My Mac's ethernet connector is not a standard 10 Base-T type. Therefore, the wire won't fit!! I understand I need something called a transceiver to convert it to a 'normal' port. Can anyone help? Also, I think I need a 'crossed' network cable as I'm linking two machines directly...? Are there any network gurus around that can help me with this, and is there any web-site or documentation I can have a look at regarding machine config??
Thanks!!
Si.

What you have is called an "AAUI" connector. Asanté sells the tranciever you are looking for. You can get them on E-bay sometimes too.
If you are going direct from one machine to another, then you are correct in that you need a 'crossover' cable instead of a 'patch' cable. Getting the Linux O/S config'd to appletalk.....I am clueless.

1. AAUI is Apple Attachment Unit Interface. You need an AAUI to 10Base-T tranceiver. Apple/Asante/Focus/Asanté make them.
2. To get Lunix to act as a AFP server you need something called 'nettatalk'
3. A crossover cable has 1 & 2 connected to 3 and 6, instead of 1 & 2 connected to 1 & 2, and 3 & 6 connected to 1 & 2 instead of 3 & 6 in the RJ45 connectors. Check the ends when purchasing.

Hi!! I have a Mac Performa 6400, I have a problem because I need the drivers of the card network for this model. Please send me the drivers. Thanks very much.
