Mac mouse virus?

Comment:

When I move my mouse around, the
pointer will track appropriately, but then it
randomly will rapidly shoot to a far corner
of the screen or down to the bottom of the
screen. This is particularly true if I
attempt to go to the "back" button in
microsoft IE. In fact, the problem seems
to occur when I am in microsoft IE. Is this
some way that people attempt to keep
you on their web pages longer? The
computer is an IMAC G4 with 512 of
memory, only several months old. Any
advice would be great.
Thanks,
Sean

Try another browser, and make sure your IE is the latest version if you MUST stick with IE.

that happens to me all the time, too. I don't think it has anything to do with the browser, I think it's the mouse. It's an optical mouse, right? I think sometimes when it's lifted from the contact surface, it could be slightly tilted or such and be interpreted the same as if you had run the mouse very quickly in one direction. I mean, as you pivot the mouse to lift it, the distance between the point of reflection of the LED and the sensor has changed and this could be interpreted equivalently as mouse movement; there is very little leeway for this situation, but done quickly enough, who knows? this is just personal conjecture, I don't know if this is a known issue with optical mice.

Yep, optical mice can be jumpy, especially if they're used on very reflective surfaces. However, if it only happens in IE, I sorta doubt it's a mouse problem.
