I am a mac user connected remotely via wireless to a
Windows server running MS Small Business Server 2003
software in a RAID 5 configuration. Opening documents
on the server can take upto a minute or more. Can
anyone suggest a way of speeding things up?Thanks

Unfortunatly you really havnt given any details but here is a go
One server 2003 has the ability to create mac shares using apple services.. something to consider instead of samba
but current versions of samba rock so that shouldnt be an issue Have you mapped the drive on the mac ?
have you configured your samba services?
osx when set up right tend to work better in a windows enviroment then windows clients...
Also wireless isnt as fast as a 10/100 line if you have hard lines capable of 10/100/1000 use them. you will see speed go faster
the other thing to consider is address translation windows servers arnt exactly the best dns servers...
try adding the servers name to your host file
/etc/hosts
you need root or su privaleges to do this but this should speed things up.
the other thing is download webmin for osx
unless you know how to edit your samba config by hand.
there is an option to use a wins server in samba use thiis to speed your self up
you will find that windows networks even though they say they are using dns do most things by brodcast and wins whenever possible maybe set up a wins server and use it on the macs
