depending on computer/OS, try checking Apple Talk settings or AFP (Apple Filing Protocol),other possibilities are that server is down,or preferences for dot mac have changed, and may require resetting,

"When i try to go to mac.com "

You mean 'When you open a browser page?' Or via
Entourage? Or Apple's Mail programme?

Sounds like your DNS settings are kaput, when it just hangs
there. Check the 'Network' Preference Pane in "System
Preferences"

Delete DNS entries in the DNS box. try new ones.
