My mac occasionally on startup will not show anything but a grey screen,
I have pressed every key and nothing happens, EXCEPT when I press Command+Power that makes it play the sad mac tone.
Some times it starts up perfectly.
(Once I got an error message it was:
(SAD MAC)

0000000D
)
Sad isn't it?

First thing to check: PRAM battery. Take it out entirely and see if it works any better. If so, get a fresh one.
