Comment: I'm a PC user that inherited a Mac Performa 6400/200. I would like to put a network card in it to share a LAN Internet connection. Any suggestions for a cheap NIC, or are there any that are PC/Mac compatible? Or does anyone have one to sell?

Reply: (edit)Any PCI NIC should work as long as your running OS 8.5 or higher.. Look for 3com or Linksys.

Reply: (edit)I have a Power Mac 6100 sharing an internet connection with my Celeron 500 PC. I'm using a program called Sygate that works very well. You can download a trial version from their website. I use version 3 as I've not been able to get version 4 to work. After I loaded it on my PC, I set up the Mac to use ethernet DCHP server in TCP/IP as my PC is the one with the modem and IP connection.

Reply: (edit)I know 2 programs... 1. PCMacLAN : install on any PCs, then PCs will have Appletalk protocol, browsing any AppleTalk zones, sharing files and printers to MACs. 2. MACSoHo: install on MACs, it will install NetBeui on your MACs. So, you can see PCs in any Domains or any Workgroups. Both 2 programs, you can download from any download websites. I hope this may useful for anyone who want. Pakorn

Reply: (edit)Hullo - I'm trying to get an old Quadra 660AV (7.5.2) to connect to my PC-based LAN. I was hoping I could use ppp on the mac (I have FreePPP) and Remote Access Server on my Win NT4 machine and a null-modem cable (i don't have an ethernet adaptor for the mac) Has anyone tried this before? I believe it has been done using Linux. My problem is that FreePPP has no null-modem option, and seems to be waiting for the modem to initialise, even with the 'Dial using terminal window' option. Any suggestions?

Reply: (edit)macs (0S8.5+) can use most cheap (even by windows standards) 100TX PXE Adapters, providing they are powered by the RTL8029 chipset and can be bought from any pc fair for as little $5 and can generally manage about 5mbytes/sec (depending on system speed and config) the drives for both mac and virtually and other platform can be found on RealTek's site a link follows.
