I have a 9500 with a 400mhz upgrade card. So far
I have switched out tthe processor card and
motherboard. I still occasionally have a problem
starting up, a white screen will come up but the
mouse doesnt show, the system icon doesnt pop
up. A couple of times the extensions started to
load then the system froze. (only 1 or 2 times) I
restarted w-out extensions, no help) But when I
do start it up if I run 2 or 3 applications i.e:
Internet Explorer and mac amp outlook express It
crashes and I get multiple error ID 11 and
sometimes 10. Could this be a power supply
problem? Any other ideas. Could it be a faulty
system folder?

Error 10 is a Trap error and 11 is a hardware
error. Neither of these may tell exactly what the
problem is. You say that you changed the Mother
board and CPU.
Did you reinstall the operating system? You can
do restore in place and not lose any data.Does your computer seem to hang after it gets
hot? If you have upgraded quite a bit, the case
was designed with cooling for a certain spec.
additional components or faster CPU will create
heat that cannot be controlled without additional
cooling (cpu fan?) I forget the phrase but I think it
is Electro-Migration where the components get
hot, the transistors enlarge or crack and data
migrates from one channel to the other. System
errors will abound. You upgraded the CPU but is th RAM the same
bus speed/timing as the new CPU front side bus?

thanks for the response...
Well the memory is all timed correctly as far as
the temperature.. if the processor got too hot
would that cause startup and system errors like
that? it seems to be running at 64 F is that too
hot. MB the fan has gone out on me I seem to
remember it staying at around 52 F. So if I ran too
many applications or processor tasking apps then
it would increase the heat and problems?
SECONDLY: If i added ram to the a1,b1 then
skipped the a2,b2 slots , would that affect
anything or can the ram be placed anywhere
(matching the sets to take advantage of the
memory interlacing of course)
Thanks!

The temperature I spoke of was the CPU
temperature. If you are indeed running at 64 F
then you have no problem with heat but I suspect
it will be quite a bit warmer than that. The
problems start at temps greater than 107 F but
some can get up to 140 F before any problems
become apparent.
Sounds like you have some issues that need to
be resolved.
First find if you can boot from CD with no issues.
Yes? - Initialize the drive and restore software.
No? - Then you have a hardware issue that must
be resloved. The card you put in may have timing
issues, the RAM may need to be updated to 100
Mhz or there is a poor voltage for the new CPU
requirements.
You know the new iMac is only 799 and your
issues may be justification for an investment as
you would get updated software/capability/speed/
RAM/capacity etc...
