OS: OS 8.5
CPU/Ram: 68080_ 24 mgb Ram
Comment:
I have recently acquired a Mac 7100/80 and I am in the process of reinstating it. It was working briefly when I got it however it froze on the third start when trying to run an afterdark screen saver and I forced to cut the power. Since then I have not been able to get machine to recognize the HD or get past the flashing floppy. I have not been able to recognize the HD from when running off the Ram disk using OS 9, which I thought I could use as a rescue disk to no avail.

Could this be due to the motherboard battery? It is dead, and when it is running shows the date as being April, x, 1957 or so. This will have to be changed no matter what. But if changing the mother board battery does not work, what more will I have to do?

Will I have to reload the rom back into the machine?

Is there a hard drive diagnostic utility that I boots from the CDRom> Disk Warrior or an OEM diagnostic program from Seagul?

And more importantly, is there a proceedure to changing out the motherboard battery? I can just replace the battery or do I have to go through a series of steps?

Thanks in Advance,

amtk_350

if the date is set back, the battery needs to be replaced,
as for the operating system,
try booting without extensions(shift key)

may also need boot floopy of os8.5 if os9 not working, may need to check format of drive first, os extended...

also may not have enough ram for os nine, check system requirements

Your right, I don't have enough ram to run OS 9> it needs 24 instead of 32. And I don't believe there is a floppy for OS 8.5, I believe they stopped being included after 7.6 or so. I have tried the shift key at boot, and have not been able to get past the flashing floppy.

I know the battery has to be replaced, however, should I still be able to read the internal HD with it dead. When running the OS 9 disk it had not shown up in any of the utility menus.
