I have an imac whose led light turns on at start up but nothing happens.
I have unplugged and let sit for a few hours and a couple of times it would boot up, but 15 seconds or so after trying to open system it will pop and go black with led light still on.

Sounds like the P/A/V (Power/Analog/Video) Board,
there have been a few of those lately.
Do you here the start up bong, then the hard drive
starts to rev up then it dies?
If yes, that is your issue, can run 90-450 USD

I can't even get the startup sound any more. I push the power button and all that happens is the light turns green, nothing else. Does this still sound like the P/A/V board?

Yes, or worst case scenario, bad motherboard, at this
point I would take it to an Apple Authorized Service
Center, IF its still under warrantee or you bought an
AppleCare extended warrantee then call Apple's
AppleCare support number.
