FreeWWWeb (http://www.freewwweb.com) offers a regular-style dial-up to the 'net, and MacPPP will get you connected.

We have 7.5.3 also and can't find a free isp either. It seems that most require OS 8 (including altavista and lycos). Let us know if you find one. Thanks!

FreeI.net has just been acquired by
NetZero, a PC-only company. They are
no longer supporting Macs (the dimwits).

aol was easy, but it is costing too much per month. How do I get this www.freewwweb.com that you are talking about? do they have an 800#? And what do you mean we need MacPPP to get connected?

I heard on PBS by owner of Geek Squad that Bluelight is closing down. I tried BlueLight local phone number sveral times in the last few days and only got busy signal when testing with telephone and "no carrier signal" via modem.

SO, reading all these responses we got freeinet-now just pc's, freewwweb-closed, bluelight.com-possibly closing, freelane-no macs anymore, juno-noresponse, and maybe lycos? Anyone have any other choices for free mac ISP I can check on?

Well, no free ISP for Mac on Lycos, they also went bankrupt, looks like we all need mac os 8. What a crock!

If you go to the FAQ area for BlueLight, you'll see the disquieting statement that they do not officially support Mac and strongly urge Mac users to go somewhere else. We used them for a while (Mac OS 8.6 on a G4) but the machine would crash on every shutdown and access was slow. We finally decided to bite the bullet and pay $12 per month for a REAL ISP.
