Problem Description:

While using the power adapter, the screen went dark and computer “sleep” light was on. It would not wake from sleep. Battery indicator lamp was flashing one green light.
I removed battery and power supply, waited a few seconds, re-connected, but machine still won’t power up. No response using the power button.

Using the following Apple K’base article, I attempted to reset the power manager. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449#faq5
Again, no response.

Left the adapter in overnight, but the battery did not charge. Still a single flashing green on the battery indicator light.

What’s the most likely suspect…battery, power adapter or computer itself??

Hmmmm...closer inspection reveals the little tip that plugs into the iBook is broken off. One of the kids probably tripped over the cord and yanked it. The little nub does not appear to be stuck inside though. The yo-yo adapter was a poor product to begin with. Never fit correctly.

When I owned a powerbook I had the same problem as you descried, and nothing had snapped off anywhere. After apple fixed it the hard drive broke twice, and then when apple took a closer look it revealed there was a link with the power problem, the hard drives breakin and a screen problem, I had a new motherboard put in and everyhting was fine.

If yours is a 600MHz model (as mine was, and a coule of other peeps I know who had the same problem with their 600 MHz model) this is the likely case.

Just got back from the Apple store, where we got it working using their battery. But the iBook was not receiving any power from adapters. Sending it off for repair. They think it's either a bad DC input or logic board. In any case, I'm covered with AppleCare.
Thanks
