Comment: I have a G4 at home that we used to use at work. It was set up for the network at work, but now I need to use a modem to access the net. I opened the computer and see that there is a 2in. metal box with a telephone jack exposed outside. The computer does not see the box am I to assume that it is not a built in modem, and I have to buy an external.

Reply: (edit)There shuold be a wire coming of the back side of the phone connection trace the wire down if its connected to a board you have a modem if its taped to your motherboard you need to buy one. Good luck
