Has anyone found it possible to install this version of Office on a beige G3 / 300mhz sucessfully? It simply gives a message: office wa not sucessfully installed". Any feedback or suggestions appreciated.

Would suggest you not even attempt it. Office 4.2.1 will give you some serious compatibility problems when used with Mac OS 8.5 and up. Even Office 98 doesn't work perfectly with 8.5 and up - you have to apply a whole raft of updaters and patches to get it to work, and that *still* doesn't get the little control panel thingy working.
My advice: either get a used copy of Office 98 (do you *really* want to use Word 6 for anything? Didn't think so) for about US$50-75 on eBay, or just bite the bullet and upgrade to Office 2001 or Office X.
