Installing MacOs 9.1 without CD

Hi there, I've downloaded the German MacOS Update 9.1 from the US-Apple Web-Site in 15 partitions. As I started the installation there was this ugly message that I need to startup from an original Apple-CD. Has anyone an advice how I can update without this CD. Thanks. Thomas

Im no expert but it probably because the system is running when u try and update.Copy your system folder to a zip drive if you have one or burn it to a CD.Boot your system off the zip (or what ever) and update it.

IIRC, most of the foreign-language versions of the Mac OS, as well as the Language Kits for the English version, would not install unless you were booting from the CD. So you need to have the CD in order to upgrade. You can get it from Apple's Mac OS Up-to-Date program for about US$20, but I'm not sure how that works in Germany.

Thanks for advice. If the installation works only with the original Mac CD, why do Apple offer online downloads.
