Installation disc keeps ejecting

i have an imac and when i try and start up from the installation cd it keeps ejecting. i have tried holding c key and starting from cd-rom in system preferences but it still ejects. I know it is the right disc as i have used it a few times before to reinstall. and it isnt scratched or anything. anyone know what is going on?
