Comment: i just downloaded a version of disk warrior on my i mac, but i think it might have been corrupted or something. anyways, it said that i needed to restart my computer for the rest of it to be installed. it didn't close some of my programs quickly enough, so i just pulled out the power cord, then put it back in. i started up my computer, and it shows the grey apple logo like normal. after about 15 seconds, the screen goes dark grey and it says "your computer needs to be restarted, press the restart button or hold the power button for a few seconds," it also has this in a few different languages. i pressed the power button, and it turns off. i turn it on again, and it does the same exact thing. i hope its not really messed up, and i don't want to have to do like a system wipe or something, so what's up? please help

Reply: (edit)i have been looking on the apple site, and i'm pretty sure what has happened is a kernel panic, from installing the diskwarrior. i tried holding down the shift key while starting up but it doesn't do anything different. should i just start up using the mac os x cd? and when i start up with it, can i still do stuff on the computer, like delete the diskwarrior, or will it just install it? and if it does, will it erase all of my files. and the archive and install or whatever, can i still use all the files like normal? sorry for all of the questions, i just really want my computer back. thanks in advance

Reply: (edit)It is a kernel panic. You need to do the following: Restart the Mac holding down the Command, Option, O, and F keys, and this will enter you into the open firmware mode after a few seconds. At the prompt, type "reset-nvram" without the quotes, then press the return key for a new prompt and type "reset-all" without the quotes. Now press the return key once again and your mac should restart. If your Mac restarts it has been successful, and your logic board/pram and nvram settings are now back to default. If this doesn't cure the problem, then you need to boot with the CD (press c during startup), and reformat. Regards, Kyomii
