I just installed a new hard drive in my iMac (it didn't have one when I got it). I know that you're supposed to be able to hold down the "C" key on the keyboard to boot from a CD-ROM, but it isn't working! I don't know if this means anything, but there is also no startup sound. It's an iMac 350 (Slot-Loading CD-ROM) with 64mb RAM. Does anybody have any suggestions on what to do about this? Also, the jumpers are set to "Master with Slaves Present" on my hard drive. Thanks
First is it a mac formatted hd (set to master no slave)It's true holding down the c key will make it startup from the cd(if the cap lock key is not on or try command -option- shift-large delete key)the no sound that could be a problem. try pressing the little reset button push button let go try to start up now(button sets near the battery)this will reset the PMU Make sure you are using the the right startup cd's . On a mac startup tones set in rom not the hd thats why you need the rigt system cd's sys.9 or sys.x information has been written to rom sys.x info or sys. 9 info what system was on the computer? wrong sys. no startup
I deleted all of the partitions on a Win PC. Yes, it is set as master. I also zapped the PRAM and now I do have the startup sound. Also, I got the computer from a school and I have no clue what OS was on it. Hypethetically, if it had OS 9.1, would it boot from an OS 9.2 CD?
