Comment: I have a slot loading imac that after installing 10.2 won't boot. I understand that I didn't install the necessary firmware but right now there is no way to do this. The machine starts up with the ding then after 3 seconds it just turns itself off but can't be restarted until it is unplugged. I have tried to get into firmware but same thing happens. It doesn't stay on long enough to do anything. It won't boot from cd because it won't stay up long enough. Can anyone give me any suggestions on this??? Paul

Reply: (edit)I had a similar problem with my Powerbook but it was after I did the firmware update. Apple told me that it is the memory. The beeps mean that your memory is incompatible with the OS X. Take it to an apple store just to make sure and they can replace the memory for you. By doing this if anything goes wrong with it then it is there fault. Hope it helps.

Reply: (edit)I had the exact same problem. Your slot load iMac should have a VGA video out port in the back. You have to pop off the cover. I was able to connect a VGA (PC) monitor and boot the Mac with display working on the external monitor. After that I was able to get the firmware upgrade installed. Now I have a problem install OS X, but that's another story. This should at least allow you to get back a display, upgrade to 9.2.2 and update the firmware.
