If they are both using the same OS (for example OS X, or OS 9) then they will be just the same and I would go for price and speed. I don't know what you budget is, but if you are looking for some of the newer models, eMacs are much cheaper than the other macs (for example iMac, PowerMac, iBook, etc)

ye an they have a G4 chip for definate you get G3 iMac (CRT models) and G4 iMacs much more expensive because of the flat screen. you also get G3 and G4 ibboks depending on your budget the G4 is obviously better but G3s will stun just about everything just great! any way the only thing that I can see that would hinder your progress (on a laptop) is the smaller keyboard and the tracker pad which for most users will be slower but if you are used to lap tops then there should be no problem, you could also pick up a cheap mouse on ebay and nearly all mouse are compatable with Mac OS X. especialy logitec ones. but if your are just learning mac you may wish to use a traditional 1 buton mouse although if you are used to 2 buttons you may prefer the extra options that provides, its all personal choice, but the mac is an easy platfor to learn and you will get the hang realy quick and never look back!
