Subject: iMac Monitor problems
OS: X

Comment:

I am running OS X on an older iMac 400 (G3) DV with 576 MB of memory. My monitor suddenly has gone haywire. It has a green hue (last start-up it was blue)to it and the windows look like they are bing pulled to the right. Nothing metalic or electronic is close ot it. Any idea what the problem might be?

What version of OS X?

Have you installed all the firmware updates?

We had this at the start of this year. Took
it to the dealer and it was fixed free. The
video board had given up.

The iMac was well out of warranty so it
must have been one of those hidden
recalls... :)

Out of interest, how did you get 576MB? I have the same iMac (DV, G3 400) and it will only take 512MB (2 x 256MB). If there's a way to install more I'd like to hear about it.

That's what I thought too, but AFAIK my iMac 400 G3 only takes 2 x 256MB DIMMs. Or does it?

Is that according to Apple, or according to RAM vendors in the last month or so?

Good question. I thought I read it in the Apple specification somewhere ages ago, but not sure where to look now. RAM vendors' sites are contradictory and seem reliable, e.g. www.cwonline.co.uk (I'm in the UK) shows a 512MB option but when you click on the link it says "For Graphite G4 (Not Beige G3)". www.macsolutions.com seems to offer 512MB for iMac 400-700. Apple Store only lists 128MB for all G3 iMacs.

I just put in a second 256MB DIMM and thought I was maxed up. Annoying if I could have bought a 512MB instead.

My imac g3 monitor will not stay on. Right after the MAC PC boots up, the monitor shuts off without displaying a screen. What is the problem.
