Have an original iMac I bought in 1998. I telecommute and use my computer almost exclusively for work. Yesterday, after about five hours of continuous work, I noticed that my monitor was beginning to get darker and darker. have tried to recalibrate colors and brightness with no luck. I am afraid my monitor might be dying. Read somewhere that it may be a Pram battery problem, but don't know. Anyone had this problem? Any suggestions? Any thoughts about whether monitor is dying or is a Pram battery -- or other, hopefully fixable -- problem? Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It could be the PRAM, Power off the iMac and when starting hold down ( Apple+Alt+R+P) Keep them depressed until you hear the start up tone 3 times. This will reset the PRAM. If the Screen is still dim it may be the cable from the inverter board or a faulty board. ?
