I have a G3 iMAC with OS X on it. I keep getting a message...something to do with kernel error and then i have to shut down the computer. I turn it back on and it stays on for three seconds or so and then shuts down again. I wait about a half hour, turn it on, and it boots up. But then about 20 minutes into the operating system i get the message again. I tried reinstalling, formatting..you name it. I even installed 9, then put os x on top of it. Any ideas? thanks.
Did you run the firmware updates before installing OS X??
Have you installed new memory recently?? If yes, take out the new chips.
You may also want to try reformatting your hard drive and then only install OS 9. See if it runs smoothly. You may be better off running OS 9 on your imac. My G3, 300 mhz iBook runs like a dog with OS X.
