Subject: imac g5 wont recognise netgear dg83OS: mac osxCPU/Ram: imac g5 1.8 ghzModel/Manufacturer: imac g5 |
Comment: I am having touble trying to connect my Imac G5 computer with my netgear dg834g router. My Pc, xbox 360 and psp connects to AOL broadband fine through the netgear router but my imac g5 for some reason wont anymore. The ethernet wire doesnt even light up on the router when i put it in through my imac g5. I bought a new wire but it still doesnt work or light up. However i can connect to broadband through my pc usb modem but that means i cant use my pc, xbox 360 or psp. Is the netgear router the problem or Is my ethernet port broken? Any suggestions please. I need to get this sorted.

Reply: (edit)Disconnect one of the other devices from the Router and plug the iMac into that port and see if it works. You could have a bad port on the Router. Look in the System Profiler under Network (on iMac) and see if it recognizes the connection.

Reply: (edit)without stating your OS version it's a bit tricky. i've had some probs with macs on 10.4.6 and netgear hubs on odd occassions. try this to reset all ports on your iMac: reboot holding down four keys: apple (or command key) + alt (or option key) + o (for open) + f (for firmware) you've now booted into Open Firmware. you'll need to type in three lines of commands which are: reset-nvram (press return) set-defaults (press return) reset-all (press return) you're iMac's logic board will now be completely reset and will read instructions from the OS's preferences when it boots correctly. If no good, reset the PRAM If not, try re-installing the operating system. Better if you can have an external boot disk (such as an iPod) to start up a clean copy of OS 9 or X
