I am trying to install OS 9.0.4 on a hard disk with nothing on it. I can boot from the CD however when I try to install the OS, I get the message that i need to update my firmware. The computer is not connected to the internet and I cannot eject the CD. Any idea ? Should I be able to setup an internet connection operating on the OS CD ?

boot from the cd that shipped with your imac. Install the OS that shipped with your imac. Then either config to go online and d/l the firmware update or have a buddy (or local Apple Store employee!) d/l it and write it to a CD. Then install it, reboot, and do a clean install of 9.0.4 (I suggest going right to 9.2.2).
