imac firmware prompt

CPU/Ram: iMac (don't know)

there is an iMac at school with a very screwed up mbr. i get the firmware prompt at start up, waiting.

how do i reinstall the os from here?
will it run Mac OS X or should i reinstall 9?

it's an original iMac.

please help!
