As the subject says my moms 233MHZ
iMac has crashed and on start up gives
the folder with the flashing question mark
we all hate, now I would just boot up from
the OS disk but the problem is that the
CD drive is not working for some reason.
If anyone has any suggestions about
getting the CD drive back to working order
or would care to let me in on how to
unlock the OS CD so I can copy it to a
disk I would be very grateful.

Replace the CD drive.
Then you can boot from the OS install CD
and work toward getting it up and running.

?5t?+8?????4`(?+D?5tthat the CD drive is plugged in still,
something may have come lose. If not,
you can take the CD drive out and replace
it, even only to boot it up, with one from
another iMac (if you have more than one)

I can boot it from a floppy and it works for a while then it crashes again or something and I have to boot it with a floppy again to get it to work. I ran techtool pro but that gave me a message that I couldn't repair anything because I was running it from the hard drive. When I get time I am going to take it apart and check the connections but for now I will keep tweaking with it. Thanks for the suggestions and help.

Boot your iMac from a floppy?
Neat trick. How did you manage to do
that?
