Imac and upgrade to USB 2.0

Hi guys... My daughter has an original iMac... The CD drive went craps and I can get a USB CDR for less $$$ then replacing the original CD drive...
However, the CDR is SLOOOOW...
Is there any what I can upgrade the USB in the iMac from 1.0 to 2.0 and take advantage of faster file transfer???

Summary: No, you can't change your USB ports. You can add a PCI USB 2.0 card. For the internal DVD, get a Pioneer 106 or 107. They are completely compatible with Apple's apps....
