Subject: iMac and ADSL USB Modem
Comment:

My ISP send me an Alcatel Speed Touch
USB modem ... they use a PPPoE
protocol and don't have support for
Macintosh.

I have an iMac and found a driver for
MacOS but this driver is for a PPPoA
protocol ....

Can I use PPPoE protocol with Alcatel
Speed Touch USB modem on Macintosh
(MacOS 9 or X)?

What do I need?

Thanks.

Tell your ISP to stop being stupid and send you an Ethernet-based modem instead. The USB ones don't work - yet - on Macs.

Shake your (really?) ISP and make him
awake! Or switch to earthlink DSL. On the
Apple Homepage you find much more
information for this Mac supporting ISP!

I just downloaded the lastest Mac drivers from Alcatel at

http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/supuser.htm

It's currently country specific.

It worked with my iBook (1st generation)!
Setup's entirely automated.

I cannot change my setting to ethernet to accept my adsl here in Japan. I have a IMAc superdrive that I bought in the U.S. and i have ordered the Adsl here in Tokyo but I cannot change the settings. I change it but the computer does not accpt it and it goes back to the regular ppp setting.
