im starting to dislike macs :(

ok i just got this mac for my brother (see other post) anyway the cd and floppy drive quit mounting so i went to the extensions manager and set it to 8.1 all settings to see if that would help
then i reboot and i get a bus error messege saying that i needed to reboot without extensions, so i try that and get the same error(after holding shift)
after attempting to get it to work several times i gave up and turned it off for a bit. so when i come back and turn it on it gets to the smiling mac and freezes. normally this wouldnt be a problem but my bro has some stuff on here and i really dont wanna lose that stuff to a format for a clean install. anyone got suggestions on how to get this to boot :( im tryin to find my os 8 disk im hoping i can get it to boot with that then change the extensions or sumthing.
