Due to some faulty utility software
(Aladdin's Spring Cleaning) I have had to
reinitialize my G4's hard drive. Before I did
it, I saved my important files to my G3
Powerbook. Now I have taken them back to my
again healthy G4 and they are reporting
damaged resource forks. I've tried everthing
I can think of...Norton, Tech Tool Pro 3,
calling Adobe and no help. The files show the
proer icons and will open the right apps. I
get error messages saying that they are
invalid file formats. Is there anything I can
do? This is 3 months of my and my coworkers
time in these files. ANY suggestions would be

You should have compressed the files
before moving. If you have access to a PC with the same
version programs, take the files to that
and open them, if it will, then save in a
Mac format, compress the files and bring
back to the Mac.

What may have happened is that they lost
either the creator or file type info. You can
use a shareware program called
Filewacker and edit those. You can also
use Norton's fastfind function to edit the
types as well. I've noticed my Photoshop
file types would change to "ogle" when I
had the Quicktime picture viewer on my
system. This would cause them to
automatically open in Quicktime picture
viewer instead of PhotoShop. It was very
annoying. I used File Buddy (demo copy
available on web) to batch change my file
type to 8BIM (PhotoShop).I hope this helps.

You could also try MacLinkPlus Deluxe made by Data Viz. This program might be able to fix your files.
