Hi All!
I have an ibook running OS 9. It was working great until yesterday-- i noticed that the date and time were wrong. So I changed it. (it was correct previosly.) I thought it strange since we are certainly not living in 1922! Then I tried to use my Internet Explorer 5.1.5, it absolutely will not run. I have even tried to re-install it. I can run IE 4.5 and I can run Netscape and everything else seems to be working except 5.1.5. I just get the jump page and then it quits the program. HELP!Thanks in advance.

You probably have a bad PRAM battery. It's the little battery on the motherboard that keeps your PRAM charged, and keeps the clock running.
Whenever I experience date-changing, I replace that. Peruse apple.com to find the PDF on how to do it yourself (for cheap) or take it to an authorized service center (for $$$).
The date thing isn't a big issue, but as you've noticed, it causes many other bizarre and seemingly random problems.

The problem you are now having with Explorer is
a software one. Follow Mike's advice and let us
know if that fixes it.As far as the backup battery goes, if you have the
original iBook, it doesn't even have a backup
battery. It uses a capacitor. You can see Article
ID: 58445 in Apple's Knowledge Base.If you a newer iBook (white, with dual USB ports),
even though they have a backup battery, pushing
the reset button can and will reset the Date and
Time along with other PRAM settings.Alternatively, if the main battery fully discharges,
the backup battery will only maintain the Date and
Time for a limited time. The backup battery in
laptops, starting with the Powerbook G3 Series,
up to and including the Powerbook G4 and iBook,
is designed to maintain PRAM settings long
enough to swap main batteries when it runs low. This is unlike Mac Desktop computers, which
Kerry is referring to, where the backup battery is
designed to maintain PRAM settings indefinitely.James
