Icons don't appear on desktop

Comment:
When I start my PowerMac 8500, it initially acts as if it's going to start-up normally. The extension icons begin to appear, then the start-up stops, and nothing further happens. The desktop is completely blank. The cursor moves, but there are no icons to click on. I've tried zapping the PRAM several times, to no avail. Please help. Thank you.

Try starting holding the Shift key down to turn off Extensions. If it starts that way, you'll have to find the extension that's causing the problem. Usually the last one that appeared.
