Comment:

I dropped my 12" iBook breaking the bezel, as well as the metal frame the bezel attaches to, and cracking the corner of the top plasic(the part with the clicker). And on top of that on impact when the bezel snapped it slipped up, and the inverter put two 1" or so scratches on the LCD.

Called AppleCare and discovered Apple's repair service is a scam(like $450 just to replace plastics, $755 for LCD), so I am going to do the damn repairs myself. Does anyone have any suggestions for places to buy parts?

The ones I have found are pbparts.com, powerbooktech.com, and idparts.com(they have the cheapest LCDs I have found). I have also looked around eBay, but prices there are a bit steep as well.

eBay will almost always be your cheapest option. Actually, your best option would probably be to find (most likely on eBay) a 12" for parts. That way, you'll get most, if not all, the parts you need at once, and cheaper than if you bought them seperately. I wouldn't do the repairs yourself unless you're comfortable and capable to do it. I tear desktops and notebooks apart all the time, and I still don't like opening up notebooks.

I am considering just sending it to powerbooktech and having them repair it. I am definately not sending it to Apple though, that would cost almost as much as just buying an equivilant machine new.

eBay doesn't beat out powerbooktech in most instances(such as bezel on eBay 39.99, bezel on powerbooktech 22).

Ok, so I have obtained the service manual for my iBook, and have the entire LCD enclosure on order, with the top plastics to be ordered soon.

I have noticed the service manual gives a part number for that yellow tape they use all over the place though. Is that special tape? Why wouldn't plain old black electrical tape work?

It's made of a polymer of perfluorounobtanium and is completely inert to chemical or electrical effects. It's really expensive.

Feh. Yeah, use electrical tape.

"....unobtanium"?

Does that mean it's impossible to get?

Any ideas on how to get a very stripped screw out of the bottom of my iBook?
