I need to buy a laptop, and I can not decide either to get a 2.4 P4 Gateway, or a 800 MHz G3 iBook. They cost almost the same (ibook is ~50$ more exensive). I am a student and I will not be able to buy another laptop for the next 3-4 years, so I want to buy something I would be able to use for a long time with no problems. And also to mention, this laptop is going to be my main computer (I decided to get a laptop instead of a desktop). I do not edit videos, neither am I a graphic designer. I am mainly inetested in Microsoft office and photoshop, as well as donloading PDF files from the internet. However, I have been hearing constatly that Macs are a lot more reliable, no matter what I am interested in doing. I had unpleasant experinces with PCs in the past, but I have no idea about the Macs. Macs do not look as cumbersome as the PCs, and I like that too. I can not afford a G4 Powerbook, so I have to pick between a G3 ibook and a 2.4 P4 PC laptop. Which one should I go for?

I'd go for the iBook personally. I use both
mac and PC laptops and I've found the
iBook to be a great machine to use. Its
ability to cope with high demanding
applications is very impressive. The
speed in Mhz really doesnt mean
anything these days. An 800Mhz G4 has
been proven to be equivelant to a 2.2Ghz
PC. I run MacOS9.2, MacOSX and
Windows XP on my iBook (with VirtualPC
installed). I'd like to see a PC do that!
Save yourself the heartache and pain...get
the iBook.

If you've had bad experiences with PCs, then by all means, ditch the platform.

And for service, Gateway isn't worth the debt their
company owns right now.

go in for an ibook!
Whatever you want to do, I think you can do it better
and with lot less hassle on a mac. however, u wont
find p2p file sharing clients that have a user base as
big as kazaa. thats the ONLY thing i find to be
lacking in macs.
well as u download a lot of pdfs from the internet,
u'd be surprised to know that pdf is inbuilt in mac
osx, that is, everything you see on screen is in the
form of pdf.EVERYTHING!. this is what makes the
text and graphics richer in macs. so, u can make
pdfs on ur own too! and you dont need adobe
distiller for that. just do a print to file and u have a
beautiful pdf that u can share with anyone.

my roommate has sony vaio laptop, and even he says
that the laptop he's gonna get is a mac. ive seen
both the laptops closely, and i dont disagree with his
remark.

I find it terribly amusing that people cite ease of piracy as one of their reasons to like PCs.
