hi,
i am having issues with my ibook G4. for the past couple of days, every time i try to turn the computer on, i get the apple logo and the little rotating thingies indicating HDD activity (putting my ear against the laptop confirms this). In any case, after a couple of minutes of this, it just shuts off immediately. Any ideas??

Try to press and hold down the Shift key while booting,
Try to boot from the install disk that came with the computer and run a DFA, (usually in the installer or utilities menu)...
If all fails, do an Archive and install
