I would try to take a DESKTOP picture (cmd-shift-3 for whole screen, cmd-shift-4 for a manual marquee, cmd-shift-4 with CAPS LOCK on and click in any open window to capture only that window). That's my guess.

Your Mac doesn't actually "know" that a
DVD image is on-screen; hence it can't
do a screen capture.
Normally, the system "maps" each
screen pixel in memory, then sends the
map to the screen. Screen capture
software doesn't actually read the screen;
it reads this map. DVDs play directly to
the screen -- they don't get mapped first,
and so screen capture sw has nothing to
"get."

You can't do this; it's an issue of legalities:

rs/dvdcapture.shtml

No one knows what your intentions are once
you have the picture -- so it could be seen as a
form of piracy.

It looks like you can do this on a PC; below are
some links to products and sites that support
DVD screen capture. You could always e-mail
someone at one of these sites and see what
they think about the whole situation, and the
outlook for Mac DVD capture.

CyberLink -- good DVD info source::

SoftDVD -- watch out for the broken links on this
