A friend of mine had dropped my commputer and now when u turn it on it comes up to this blank screen as if it is trying to boot up and it has the rotating circle as if it is thinking but it doesn't go any further than that. I am curious to know if i need a new hard drive or if maybe it can be fixed.

i hope you backed it up before the accident. you should just buy another HDD from newegg.com. Don't take it to the apple store because even if you have apple care they will not replace the hard drive for 'free'. They will charge you an arse load of money. When you do get it fixed:

1.Get an external drive DOUBLE/TRIPLE the size of the drive in the notebook
2.Set the drive up in Time MAchine.
3.Set up TM for Automatic Backups.
4.Don't EVER let that friend use your Mac EVER again.

Hell have the pay for the drive they ruined. A REAL friend would pony som cash for the replacement AND the external backup.
